Tyumen Drama Theatre

In 2008, The Tyumen Bolshoi Drama Theater got the new building which was built in record time for 1 year and 8 months.

The theater with 158-year history is the biggest Drama Theater of Russia. History of the Tyumen theater began even before the first building. It is known that in 1858 the St. Petersburg guest expressed his admiration for Amateur performances. This fact was recorded, and the theatrical history of the city was reckoned from it. History tells us that in 1890, the first Guild merchant, an honorary citizen of the city Tekut`ev Andrei Ivanovich was founded a permanent theatre, which entered the history of the town called Tekut`evsky. Andrei Ivanovich, in love with the spectacle of dramatic scenes, supported theatre for 26 years. In 1916, before his death, he bequeathed the theatre to the city. The city Council accepted the gift, and newspaper announcements began to inform about the performances not in the Tekut`ev`s theater, but in the city theatre named Tekut`ev.

After the October revolution, the theatre received the name of V. I. Lenin. Under the leadership of the Petrograd director Valmar it was staged such performances as "Idiot", "the Power of Darkness", "the Living corpse", "the Day". In subsequent years the core of the repertoire included Russian and foreign classics, the best works of modern drama.

In April, 1934 the actor of the theatre Schmidt B.P was awarded the title of honored artist of the Republic. In 1976, the honorary title of the people`s artist of RSFSR was given to Georgy Ivanovich Dyakonov — Diachenko.

In Tyumen Drama Theater worked such major masters of the stage as honored artists of the RSFSR Yury Zamyatin, P. Slovtsov, A. Potapov, B. Mostovoy, A.Rubyakov, B. Krasikov, N. Zubkov, honored artist of the RSFSR E. Plavinsky, theater organizer honored worker of culture of Russia Alexander Kalugin.

The Tyumen Drama Theatre related creative destiny of a people's artist of the USSR Yevgeniya Matveyeva and Vladimir Krasnopolsky, people's artists of Russia V. Litvinova, I. Arkad`eva, P. Vel`yaminova.
