St. Joseph Catholic Church

The Roman Catholic church of St. Joseph is situated in the historical center of the city just a few minutes’ walk away from the Tura Embankment and the Historical Square.

The church was erected from 1903-1906 by the efforts of Tyumen’s Polish community, but in 1929 the Soviet government closed the church. For many years it was used as for storage, and in 1986 it was even used by a scientific club. After 1991, however, the building was restored to be a church once more. In 1994 the church brought the first organ to Tyumen, and by 1998 the church was returned to the governance of the Roman Catholic community of Tyumen. Today the church holds regular services.
